So much of the focus during the holidays is on the turkey and the main meal on Christmas Day. However, having delicious appetizers and snacks at the ready is every bit as important as the meal itself.

Attention to the little details distinguishes the ordinary hostess from a truly extraordinary hostess.

Make up the nibbles – bacon wrapped dates with goat’s cheese for example or sausages in filo ready for baking.

Try this easy recipe for Cheese Straws and you’ll never have to worry about being caught snack short over the festive season.

Giant Cheese Straws with Caraway and Dijon Mustard


  •  Puff pastry rolled out to form a rectangular sheet on 30cm by 45cm
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard and 2 egg yolks and 2tsp aromatic spice mix – mix together with a pastry brush
  • Grated Strong Mature Cheddar
  • 3 tsp caraway seeds


Brush the pastry with the egg wash sprinkle over the cheese and caraway seeds. Cut into long straws. Bake until well risen.

Seriously, this couldn’t be simpler or tastier!
