spiced saltsIt’s easier than you think to make impressive extras and gifts such as Spiced Salts and Lavender and Pomegranate Vodka, which can be whipped out on the day as a special treat or stocking filler. Try my quick and easy recipes.

Spiced Salts

  • 1kg malden sea salt or guerlande
  • 2 tbsp slightly crushed red peppercorns
  • 16 star anise
  • 6 evenish sticks of cassia bark
  • 8 tsp dried red chillies
  • 20 slightly crushed green cardomon pods
  • 20 slightly crushed juniper berries
  • lots of lovely jars to store the salt – sterilised of course

Mix everything together, divide between jars and seal tightly. The longer you leave them, the hotter they get. It’s as easy as that!

Pomegranate and Lavender Vodkavodka

  • 2 litres vodka
  • 1 large ruby red pomegranate, bash all the seeds out with a wooden spoon
  • 10 seams of flowering lavender
  • Sterilised bottles to store, approx 6

Divide the pomegranate seeds between the bottles, pour in the vodka and then slide in the lavender steam. Cut to the correct height into the bottles. Seal tightly and store in a cool dark place for several weeks, shaking a little each time you pass. If you don’t drink it all during the first use, be sure to consume within a year.
